Bedding Basics – What’s Inside your Bed?
Dec/090
Before you go out and buy a new bed set you should take some time to the different components that make up the modern day bed set. Knowing this can save you lots of time and money when shopping for what some consider as one of the major purchases in life. Considering that we spend about one third of our lives in bed sleeping we want to be sure and pick a bed set we will be happy with.
Most bed sets are based on the same time proven design:
Bed Frame
The bed frame is what holds your box springs and mattress in place. Many modern frames are constructed of wood or metal with the higher quality frames able to accommodate several different mattress sizes. Be aware that frames made for larger size mattresses need to have a center support bar to prevent sagging.
Box Springs
The box springs are usually purchased along with a new mattress because they are made to work together as a complete set and if you are in need of a new mattress the chances are you also need a new box spring. Some think this is made up by the bedding industry to increase profits and if you are so inclined you can often find mismatched sets for a much better price than a matching set.
If you were to look inside your box springs you see a set of wire coils that are made to provide just enough support but not so much that the bed would be sagging while you were in it.
Mattress
The mattress is the part of the bed that provides the majority of the support your body needs to sleep well at night. If you do not have good support you will toss and turn and can wake up stiff. Lack of proper support is the main reason for people not sleeping well at night.
There are several types of mattresses available:
Traditional Coil These mattresses have individual steel coils inside them to provide spinal support and are the type of mattress most people are familiar with.
Memory Foam This mattress is made from a special visco elastic heat sensitive foam that gets softer as your body warms it up providing just the correct amount of support where and when you need it.
Water Bed These use large bladders filled with water that use a baffle system to provide support. They must be heated constantly as they are too cold to sleep otherwise.
Air Bed Another newly popular mattress is the air bed. Like a waterbed the air bed is filled with air and many of the more expensive models have remotes that let you control the firmness of both sides of the bed separately.
Padding
The final layer of the bed is usually made from cotton, wool or memory foam and is the main factor in determining the comfort rating of the mattress. Firmer mattresses will have less padding and softer mattresses will have more. The softest mattress available today is the pillow top mattress and is getting to be very popular.
There you have it. You now know the different parts of a bed set and can go shopping with confidence knowing that you are armed with the knowledge to pick the perfect bed set for your lifestyle.

Pilates 101 – the Basics
Dec/090
A concept developed by Joseph Pilates, based on the idea of physical-mind methodology, his system of non-impact exercises are meant to develop ones strength, balance, flexibility and self-consciousness.
It’s a great excersie for both you and old and is both enjoyable and healthy lets look at the basics of pilates.
The concept
Joseph Pilates was born in Germany in 1880. He will very ill as a child, and wished to find a way to make himself physically fit. He tirelessly studied all systems of physical culture, and eventually became a real athlete.
Later as the First World War broke out, Pilates was restrained in England as he was German.
There he worked as a nurse and devised some contraptions to aid rehabilitation. This was later refined into his âmethodâ, which trains the basic back and abdominal muscles to stabilize correctly the upper torso, and gives the whole body a freer more natural movement.
The Method and Benefits
Specifically the method is a specialized series of movements that can be used by anyone at any age and in any kind of physical condition, even for people who are in wheelchairs.
As his method promotes feelings of well-being, and self-consciousness, people who practice it find themselves improving at many levels.
The method acts to strengthen oneâs muscles, and give them greater flexibility. It does so without adding muscle mass, and therefore its ideal for dancers.
Also a benefit of practicing the method is that by improving your posture, your flexibility and your sense of balance, you can prevent injury.
This is very important in older adults, dancers and actors. The method is also an excellent aid to rehabilitation.
Working With a Pilates Instructor
If you find a Pilates studio will first have an interview with an instructor. He or she will do a survey on your posture, and how you move.
Then a specially designed training program is developed specifically for you, using classic (or newly adapted) Pilateâs method movements.
Your program will usually begin with some active and passive stretching movements, and general mat work. Passive stretching means the instructor will manipulate your body to get the desired effects. Active stretching means you will perform the stretching exercises as you are monitored by the instructor.
Working on a Pilates Machine
There are two basic machines in the Pilates method. One is known as the Universal Reformer (UF) and one as the Cadillac.
The UF looks much like a bed without a mattress. It has a platform that slides back and forth, and many cables, springs and pulleys.
These are vestiges of the original Pilates machinery that he devised for patients in bed, and so exercises can be done to suit the patientâs movement capabilities. Your exercise session will last about 30 minutes, maybe a bit longer.
All movements are done very slowly, and there is a lot of commentary from the instructor regarding all the variables; breathing, posture alignment and the way the movements are performed.
There are now many books and home videos (and many can be found on the internet) that will allow a person to practice without an instructor. However, it is highly advised to at least learn the basics with an instructor first.
The Popularity of Pilates
The method can be said to be nearly universal now. Dancers love it, as it gives them the added benefit of strength without more muscle mass.
Also it give them a great deal of flexibility. Athletes love it as it helps them improve their sport, and also prevent injury. People who are confined to beds, wheelchairs or the home love it as it allows improvement no matter oneâs condition.

The Basics of RV Furniture Selection
Dec/090
If you are in the path to shopping for RV furniture then you have come to the right place. This article will help you get ready to make the right choices for your RV.
There is a plathera of RV furnitures to select from. You have to choose among RV furniture for the dining area, for the living room area, for the sleeping area and so on. You have to be sure to pick the one that fit your personal taste and style. As much as you want practicality and functionality, trust me, you will want to personalize your choices a little bit.
When choosing RV furniture, for both interior and exterior, just stick to the basics and know your budget. Lets look at them one by one shall we?
Outdoor RV Furniture:
These should be durable, easy to clean and can be stored and set up quickly. Your best bet is compact camping chairs. Not only do they fit the criteria above, they are economical as well.
Alternatively, can choose the more “luxurious” padded rockers and recliners if you have a little more budget. Even if they are not as small and compact as camping chairs they they still fit the bill. They are made of a special woven fabric which are supposedly “breathable” for a nice cool flow.
You cant have chairs without a table can you? Picnic tables and foldable card tables are what you want. Whats the use of travelling with an RV if you can’t have a picnic in every other stop.
Basically, for exterior RV Furniture, tables and chairs that are easy to clean and easy to store are all you need.
Indoor RV Furniture:
The first thing you need to know is the dimensions of your interior. After that, decide what type of feel you want the inside of your RV to be. Like I said earlier, you dont want to just have a generic feel in your RV. Road trips can be long and you need the extra punch to make it pleasurable.
Captains chair – You have to make sure that the captains chair you pick is comfortable. Great ones are the ones with swivels so that you can take advantage of the space. Spin that sucka!
A great space saver is a soffa or pullout bed. You cvan get one ready made or make a customized one. This popular choice has a wide array of designs, colors and fabrics to choose from.
Beds – If you decide to get one, you should not only consider comfort but the size as well. Remember that your RV is your home away from home and it should feel that way. Make sure that you pick one that you know will give you a good and comfortable nights sleep.
Tables – should be sturdy. You can stick them to the wall or floor or you can get a foldable one for more space. It really depends on your preference.
Getting RV furniture can be a fun experience. Take your time and know what ambiance you want and you will find that traveling with the right RV furniture will make your travel very relaxing and stress free.

Pilates Equipment Basics
Dec/090
So you want to get started on a Pilates program but don’t know what Pilates equipment you will need to get started. That’s great news and a decision you will not regret!
Pilates is growing in popularity because it produces results and has been doing so for decades. Now you can even set up a home workout studio that uses Pilates equipment similar to the original Joseph Pilates designed models. And we know what kind of results he described!
Joseph and his classic Pilates Method have such a legion of followers and part of that reason is because his Pilates equipment produced results. The good news is that the huge variety in sizes of Pilates equipment has made that equipment more affordable and more size appropriate to fit into our homes instead of just a gym somewhere.
Think back about when Joseph Pilates got started with his Pilates method. During World War I, Joseph was at an English internment camp and started to test his exercises on injured soldiers. Pilates started with those patients who were immobilized and bed-bound. To get them exercising, Joseph rigged up their hospital beds with springs, creating resistance to help them regain their strength. Brilliant! It was from this experience and experiment that Joseph went on to develop the Pilates Reformer.
Fascinated with spring-based pieces of equipment, Joseph headed to New York in the 1920s. He’d spent additional time creating more spring-based pieces of equipment as well as pieces that had lots of movable bars and adjustable straps.
When he landed in New York, Joseph set out to be successful and there was no stopping him. He’d seen the success with the immobilized in England and he believed in his product and his method. Early during his time in New York, he began to work with dancers to help them gain flexibility and lengthen their muscles as well as to repair their bodies. He was fortunate enough to work with some very famous dancers who not only hungrily embraced the Pilates method but they told others about it too.
One of the hallmarks of the Pilates program is the Pilates Reformer. Like other pieces of Pilates equipment, the Reformer uses the resistance of springs in order to create effort. The Reformer is made of a sliding platform anchored at one end of its frame with springs. The user can move the platform by either pulling on ropes or pushing off from a stationary bar. So you gain the benefit of the reformed by tackling the challenge of moving the platform while keeping your balance on a moving surface. You can work the Reformer sitting or standing.
The Pilates Cadillac is another classic. This machine consists of a padded platform with a cage-like frame above it. Sounds a little medieval…I digress…The Pilates Cadillac has a variety of bars or straps connected to the frame by springs. See the theme… Joseph Pilates loved springs and believed in them for creating resistance!
Another piece of Pilates equipment is known as the Pilates Barrel. This barrel is typically made with a sturdy wood frame with a well-cushioned foam and vinyl curved form. The Barrel is a simpler piece of equipment than the Reformer or the Cadillac and is meant to be used with mat work in exercises that open the upper back to enhance flexibility and correct posture.
So just because you know what type of Pilates equipment is out there and you know that you can buy it for your home, but stop before purchasing it and think about it!
Pilates equipment should only be used in a home setting after you’ve received proper training from a certified Pilates instructor. With Pilates it is not just learning how to use the equipment but you must also learn how to breathe in accordance with Joseph Pilates methods.
There are many great Pilates videos and Pilates DVDs that you can use in between sessions in which you are learning how to use your Pilates equipment from a certified Pilates trainer.
Pilates equipment for the home is an exciting proposition. Just take the time to research the equipment and learn what you are doing before getting started. Keep working with a trainer and then enjoy the results of your workout. Celebrate the new flexibility and mobility that you will enjoy with Pilates.

Craft Business Basics 2 Place

Craft Business Basics 2 Place
This article is the second in a series of four articles that will guide you on how you can start your own crafts business using the four Ps of Marketing – Product, Place, Price and Promotion.
I hope you’ve had a good time brainstorming and researching ideas for your crafts products to sell. If you haven’t, please read “Crafts Basics 1 – Product” and do the exercises and see what you can come up with today. In fact, if you keep doing them, you’ll never run out of things to sell!
In this article, we’ll look at the places that you can sell your crafts. Traditional marketing says location, location, location is all important in retail sales. If you’re intending to sell your crafts directly to your customers, then where you sell them is important. Each channel of sales comes with its own challenges and it helps to learn from experts from the various channels so you know how to sell effectively. Below are some ways you can get into the crafts business.
* Consignments Sales
* Publishing your Designs
* Internet
* Catalogs/Mail Orders
* Home Parties
* Tradeshows/exhibitions
Consignments Sales
Consignment sales are possibly the cheapest way to get started in craft sales so you should consider using this channel. Basically consignment sales means you put your products with the stores to be sold and you give the stores a percentage of whatever they sold.
It sounds easy enough but it can turn out to be difficult because storeowners can be very particular. They want to know if your product will fit in with their store, and they want a good commission for your product. Some storeowners may accept products readily but they may not bother to display them and even if they display them they may not bother to promote them.
You’ll need to prepare beforehand, and you’ll need to know how to talk to the storeowners so that you don’t irritate them but instead attract them enough to want to sell your products.
Saying the wrong things and saying too much can cause you to lose all your sales, even though you might have wonderful sellable products. The lesson to learn is how to maintain that delicate balance between talking and talking too much when introducing your products to the storeowners.
Many people would be contented to just leave the products with the storeowners but if you go the extra mile and help storeowners with details like decorations to your products and the window display, you will see significant improvements in your sales.
Publishing your Designs
If you design your own products and want to get your designs published, magazines are a great way to go.
You would need to take care of your copyright before you publish in case the design is stolen but it’s quite easy and cheap to do so. You would need to check with the authorities of your country for details.
Publishing designs in magazines is not unlike submitting other publications to magazines. You’ll need to check out the relevant magazines for their guidelines on submission, and submit the designs according to those guidelines. Not doing so would almost ensure your design never gets published, no matter how good they are. Occasionally you may chance upon a nice editor, but don’t count on it.
A potentially sticky issue with submitting designs to magazines concerns the rights to the designs. Sometimes, the magazines would want to buy total rights to your designs for a low fee. You can also negotiate to keep all the rights or give the magazine the first rights to your design, meaning they must be the first to publish that design, after which you may do so. In any case, make sure you read the contracts carefully before signing, in case you sign away a potentially profitable design for $50.
Another way of getting your designs published, if you want to avoid those pesky editors, is to publish them yourself. This takes a bit more work and requires a bit of investment on your part but may end up being more fulfilling and even profitable.
You could print your own designs and put them up for sale or you could create an electronic or digital version of your design for sale. If you’re considering selling a digital version, the most common and probably best file format to use would be PDF, because it is viewable on most, if not all, computers. Between selling a physical hard copy and digital soft copy versions, many self-publishers are going the way of digital publishing because of the lower costs involved. Although the industry-standard is Adobe PDF creator, it will cost you a bomb to get it. You’ll need to sell hundreds, even thousands of crafts to pay for it. Search on the net and you’ll find several cheap and even free alternatives.
Probably the best way to sell your self-published designs would be through the internet.
Internet
The idea of selling on the internet is enticing. If I were to list the steps, it sounds so deceptively simple but from experience, I know it’s not easy. Many many people fail at it. It’s a whole new ball game and if we want to play the game well, we should invest time getting an education first.
If you are new to internet marketing and want to get started quickly without getting into the technical nitty-gritty, Ebay should prove to be a good platform. Once you have enough sales and experience, you can then graduate to having your own store on Ebay or elsewhere.
If you are put-off by the technicalities involved in setting up a website, you can also use a blog to peddle your wares. Setting up a blog is no more difficult than getting a free email account so most people should be able to do it. Just head over to Blogger or Wordpress to get an account. You can put some pictures and descriptions of your products with a link to PayPal and you’re in business! It is not the most professional way to do it bu some people have been selling craft jewelry online pretty successfully this way.
If you want to set up a blog or a shopping cart on your own website, it isn’t very much more difficult either.
1) Register a domain name at GoDaddy or some other reputable company. You should not need to pay more than $9 for .com, .net, .org, .biz etc.
2) Get a web host – If and when you plan to get your own website, one aspect you must be very careful about is web hosting. There are tons of cheap web hosts around but please resist the temptation. It is really not worth the savings of that few dollars when they blackmail you with your domain name or they ignore you when your site is down.
Once you have found a few web hosts that you think might meet your needs, do a search for reviews of those hosts first. If there are no reviews or very few reviews, I would advise that you avoid them.
If you are new, I would suggest you look for a web host that offers cPanel with Fantastico because it will be easier for you to handle. Fantastico allows you to set up a shopping cart or a blog with just a few clicks so you can get started with your online shop easily.
3) Set up your blog or your shopping cart. If you really don’t want to get your hands dirty here, contact your host. Most of them will be able to help you get started.
If you intend to sell using your website, it will be much better for you to get a hosted shopping cart. (Just search for “hosted shopping cart” to get some suggestions) They will be able to set up everything for you so all you need is to put in your own writeups and photos, configure your settings and you’re ready to go.
Catalogs/Mail-order
Catalogs and mail-orders have been used for decades and even centuries and is one of the best channels for a home-based business due to its relative low-cost and its simplicity. Catalogs are attractive because they’re usually very colorful and attractive and many people don’t mind picking up one to flip through at leisure after dinner or in bed.
Nonetheless, if you’re not careful, you could potentially lose quite a bit of money. This could happen if your catalog and sales letter were weak and you sent to too many people. This is why all direct sales experts agree that testing is necessary. Test the effectiveness of your catalog and sales letters on a small-scale first. If it doesn’t work, change something and try again. Keep changing until you get it right then do it on a big scale.
There are several things to take note when designing catalogs. In catalog creation, placing the right items in the right places will increase your sales significantly. The number of items to put on each page is also an important c7onsideration. Needless to say, your most attractive items should always be on the first page.
If you want to sell through catalogs, you should consider selling bookmarks, book covers and candy covers as they have been proven to sell very well through this channel.
Home Parties
You may also want to consider home parties, which have been used effectively by companies such as Tupperware and Mary Kay to sell their products.
Home parties should be fun to attract more people. A fun environment also makes people more willing to buy your products. As mentioned earlier, use your catalog effectively and organize games with the catalogs. This will “force” your party-goers to read your catalog closely and in the process, they may find something that they want to buy.
Tradeshows/exhibitions
Exhibitions can be very tiring but can be very rewarding as well, both financially. Especially if you’ve been selling your crafts behind-the-scenes, through catalogs or the internet. Being able to see the joy and delight in your customers as they look and hold and play with your crafts is rewarding in itself. If they purchase, it’s even better!
Don’t let yourself be restricted to just selling by sitting down. Run some events at your booth to attract more people. Even a simple game or performance can draw many interested visitors.

Craft Business Basics
Dec/090
* Consignments Sales
* Publishing your Designs
* Internet
* Catalogs/Mail Orders
* Home Parties
* Tradeshows/exhibitions
