I want to buy a dora toddler bed for my 18 month old for christmas, but not 100% sure she is ready. How old was your child, and how did you know when they were ready…and did they ever fall out of the bed?

He got it for his 2nd birthday. Around 3 1/2 we moved him from a toddler bed to a full size bed.

We’ve moved our kids to toddler bed at 2. 5 and twin bed at 4 with good success. They’ve all occasionally fallen out of both while asleep. . . sometimes you hear the thump and find them still asleep on the floor. . . We never moved them from the crib until they jumped out on their own just because it is way easier to put them to be in a crib from which they can’t escape. . .

We got our son a Big Boy bed (it’s a twin bed not a toddler bed) for his second birthday. He was getting too big for his bed. He has never fallen out because I am using one of those railings you get that blocks the open side of the bed if it’s against a wall. He’s never looked back.

My first one started sleeping in the toddler bed at 2 yrs. My 2nd one also at the age of two, maybe a few months before his 2nd birthday. They never fell out.

my daughter was 2 years old. i was really nervous about it, since she did great in her crib i thought she would get outta bed a million times a night, but nope she did great. she stayed in her bed all night and in the morning when she wakes up she even lays in bed a little extra while shes waking up.
aw i saw the dora beds! those are cute. i ended up getting my daughter the princess one with the canopy on it. i love it.
she never fell out of bed, they arent that far off the ground, its the twin beds that are higher.
good luck!

I got a toddler bed for my daughter when she was about 18 months. Her crib would no longer contain her. Even with the mattress at the lowest point, she could climb the rails and get out. I figured it was safer for her to fall out of a toddler bed than to fall from the top of the crib railing! The worst part about the transition was getting her to stay in her bed at bedtime.

Well i bought my son his first “big kid bed” at 2 years old. But it’s like a mattress and box spring in one if that make sense. It’s not on a frame and it just sits on the floor. Which is good cause when he falls out he really doesn’t have to go a long distance. In fact just to be silly he’ll just roll off of his bed on purpose and he doesn’t get hurt at all. I just have to check on him during the night to make sure he’s not about to fall or already on the floor. Maybe put pillows on the ground next to bed in case she does fall. And if all else fails, you can always buy a guard rail to put on the bed.

I got my daughter a toddler bed when she was about 15 months old and we’ve had no problems. She has never fallen out and she loves it. It makes her feel like such a big girl. She never tried to climb out of her crib I just knew that she was ready for a toddler bed-mothers intuition I guess you could say.

At 2, right as climbing out of the crib became an issue. We had a toddler bed from ikea, but it was too small, so now we have a twin bed with a attached/adjustable rail. Make sure the rail has rounded edges, and is tall enough, the ikea rail was a rectangle-shape with a corner, and my little one had bruises from leaning on the corner while sleeping. good luck, and be prepared to put your little one back in bed when they come find you in the night for the first couple months!

My son started sleeping in a twin size bed at 17 months bc baby #2 was on his way. He went straight from a crib to a twin-size bed with an extra long bed rail. He’s been fine sleeping there, and is able to get in and out of it easily.

My daughter was 21 months when we moved her to a toddler bed. We set it up in her room next to her crib so she could try it out for size, and once she got in it, she never got out of it. She was ready for it before I was ready for her to be in it. I told her that “nite nite” rules for her big girl bed were the same as they were for the crib, and we have not had one single problem. She has yet to fall out of it (but I have pillows on the ground just in case), and I think she’s only gotten out of bed twice; once in the middle of the night because she was sick, and the other at nap time because she wasn’t a “sleepy baby. ”
Good luck.

My dauhgter got her toddler bed at 15 months and her twin sized bed at 4 1/2 (just recently).
She was ready b/c she was a very sound sleeper and hated the crib anyways but did wonderfully in her bed♥

When they start to climb out of their crib. . . you know they are ready. lol At least thats how it worked with my son. He was around 18 months as well. These toddler beds are low to the ground so getting hurt usually isnt an issue. But if you are worried you can do what i did and buy the guard rails for extra piece of mind.

i just bought my daughter a toddler bed. . she loves it and is happy she can climb up on it herself. . . she is 15 months. . it was hard to get her to sleep in it a couple of days of putting her back in her bed but other then that she did very well

I moved my son to a toffler bed at the age of 18 months. I had to do it because he kept climbing out of his crib. It all depends on the baby. I don’t think there is really a set time for them to be out. I think if we makes his room interesting by making a theme he or she will like to go bed early. Like I bought bedding from character comforts which help a lot. Good luck.
