Are there any simple directions on how to make a platform bed? How many inches off of the floor are they?

I love woodwork, and I’m thinking of making my own platform bed, with a special paining design I have in mind. How many inches off of the floor are most platform beds? To my knowledge only a mattress is placed on top of the platform. It doesn’t seem like it would be difficult to make at all.
